Greetings Everyone,
As it has been discussed elsewhere in the forum, Novus will remain "Star Wars" oriented, but is happy to support it's members and other Sci-Fi groups. So what we've been working on the side lately is to start a Star Trek costuming group, and we've decided to be part of Starfleet which is the world's largest Star Trek Fan Organisation. We figured if we're going to do this, then we should do this right. It's also a plus to have the support of other Australian chapters as well as support from the Admiralty around the world.
I know some Novus members are hiding Star Trek costumes in their closets and I would like to encourage our members to dig them up and try on a different flavour from time to time.

As mentioned before, Starfleet International (SFI), is a group that has been around for 36 years, and they seem to be a very organised lot. I was a member back in the early 90's, and they were a good bunch to be a part of.
We've just achieved the minimum required number of members to get the chapter started as a "Chapter-in-Training", and forwarded the chapter application to the Admiralty. In the meantime, this will give us time to work on getting things organised, put together a newsletter (most likely in PDF format to keep the costs to zero), and allow the dust to settle. We'll have 9 months to get our membership base to 10 Starfleet members and then the Admiralty will grant us "Starship" aka "Commissioned Chapter" status. We currently have 6 registered "Starfleet" members on-board and hope to make it to 10 within the next 9 months.
Once we're approved by the Admiralty, I can start purchasing a domain name, and get started on a logo, and setup a website for the new chapter. In the meantime, all we can do is wait for approval.
As mentioned before, we've decided to call the ship USS TYDIRIUM (Name is still negotiable), as a nod to our Star Wars roots/background, and cuz it sounded pretty cool (Thank's for the suggestion Prue). We've also decided to go with this particular ship design, it's fast, it's sleek, and it breaks into 3 parts for when ya need a little extra arse kicking firepower.

We're hoping to make the group a free membership group after we establish the 10 founding members which will grant us Commissioned Starship status, many Stafleet chapters tend do have a mix of Starfleet and Non-Starfleet members. I would love to hear everyone's input in building this up as a great chapter, all ideas are welcome.
I would like the group to continue the tradition of Sci-Fi costuming by encouraging our members to costume up as their favourite Star Trek characters (which means you're not forced to be Federation only). But unlike Novus, we'll welcome other types of Sci-Fi costumes as well, which allows Novus to continue focusing on "Star Wars" only. Quite a few Starfleet ships around the world focus on other Sci-Fi as well, so we wouldn't be the first.
As mentioned before, here are the membership details for joining Starfleet. For individuals, yearly membership is $20, but they also have family prices too, which is a great way to save a few bucks.
