I am making Alexander a new X wing pilots costume and what I need is a very small box for the front.I am able to access coloured pieces etc to put on it but not sure about the box piece itself. I know i can probably buy one for heaps of dollars (those I do not have)but if i can make one it would be much better. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

Yeah, that'd work nicely and wouldn't be difficult. They're pretty simple things to knock up (err.... so I've been told ;) )

we've just wandered around the $2 shops and come up with a couple of solutions that might work

1) a cassette case ? maybe too rectangle
2) a soap container (washing kind NOT the cricket kind)flat kind not rounded
3) a 3" floppy disc box using only part of it
4)one of the cigarette case metal ones

bit worried about styrene as you said it can be chewed and when chewed can be dangerous
we will give all the options a go, even the styrene if it is sealed it might be OK and see what works best
more suggestions welcome

Thanks

Sorry I did not know it was called styrene, silly me
the man at the parts wrecking yard thought I was a bit weird asking for the small curly pipe stuff that holds the loom together, automotive plastic pipe stuff is smaller than washing machine waste hose and just the right size.

i think i know what one of these things looks like, I thought perhaps snaps can be used to "pin" it on the white "bibthing" so theres less straps for junior to get tangled in, that way it can be snapped on or off easily, incase he needs his Jedi nap ;)
And about styrene I had no idea what it was until Id seen it myself, couldnt figure how r2s were made of fruitboxs either!

Here's a pic -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v417/darthbarry/Star%20Wars%20ME/Chestbox01.jpg

If you want to scale down from it, here are some dimensions -

Width - 165mm
Length - 190mm
Height - 35mm

Note: The top and bottom have bevelled edges (if you want to go that far with the detail).

The boxy section at the top sits up 6mm from the base and is 80mm long.

The switches on my chestbox are inaccurate. There shouldn't be gaps between them. There are three switches (usually the two outer ones are grey and the middle one is white). They should be touching each other. (Another thing for me get fixed!)

I hope that makes sense ;)

let me know if you need any more info.
