Hobart has a rich colonial history and abounds in the buildings and relics of a past era.


Take one of Hobart's historic walks and visit sites around Sullivans Cove, walk through narrow laneways and down into cellars and into old jails and have a whiff of the past. Get the information you need at the visitor centre on Davey St.

Walk down to Battery Point and walk through its maze of narrow streets to view convict-built structures.

Visit the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery at Macquarie St close to the visitor centre and discover the riches of Tasmanian heritage through fauna and mineral displays, maritime and convict history, early Australian art and stories of Tasmania's Aborigines.

Discover the craft markets
Every Saturday, Salamanca Place becomes a bustling marketplace with handcrafted products, gemstone jewelry, and assorted, often unique, other products. Art galleries, arts and crafts shops and souvenir stalls are open most days of the week at Salamanca Place.


Casino
Australia's oldest legal casino is found at Sandy Bay south of Hobart city centre. Have a flutter at the gaming tables, enjoy floor shows, dine in its restaurants.


Beer
There are tours to Australia's oldest brewery, Cascade Brewery, southwest of the city centre


Go on a daytrip

Travel southwest from Hobart to the Huon Valley. Take a jetboat cruise at Huonville. Take the scenic route back to Hobart through Cygnet and along the D'Entrecasteux Channel.

If you have time, or on another day, take the ferry from Kettering across the D'Entrecasteux Channel to Bruny Island.

Drive roughly east, then south, to the Tasman Peninsula and visit the historic site of Port Arthur. Take the ghost tour if you dare.

This is sounding better and better ! Our flights are booked, Helen and I and the kids are flying down Thursday and will be doing the weekend and then touring, departing the following thursday. i think I will book into a local accommodation or the cassino for the event and then free wheel after that. so totaly up to any ideas for the Monday to wed/s.

I can totally back Nick up here, the Salamanca markets were fantastic the last time i was there.

For anyone planning to look around the state while they're here there's the Mole Creek Marakoopa and King Solomons Cave.

The caves are Fantastic. It's on the way to Cradle Mountain and about an hour and fifteen from Launceston. Nice drive. There's also a wildlife park in the area for those wishing to see the Tassie Devil amongst other wildlife.

Come and visit us in Hobart for a brewery tour or relaxing drink and a bite to eat in the Cascade Visitor Centre.

One-and-a-half hour tours are conducted by guides several times per day, 7 days a week. Tours include the chance to see some of Australia's best loved premium beers brewed in the historic brewery and a walk through the famous Woodstock gardens. Allow half an hour at the end of the tour for tastings, which are included in the tour price.

Tour Costs
$20 for adults, $10 for children and young people under the age of 18, $15 for seniors/students (with cards) and family $45 (two adults and up to two children). Please note that children under 5 years of age are unable to attend due to safety reasons.

The Cascade Brewery is located 10 minutes by bus or car from the centre of Hobart.

Safety
The Cascade Brewery is a fully-operational work site therefore we consider safety aspects to be a major priority.

Visitors must wear flat shoes.
Thongs and sandals are not permitted
- covered shoes are essential and anyone participating in tours must comply to safety regulations.

Long trousers must be worn - shorts or skirts are not permitted. The tour is not suitable for people who use a walking aid as considerable climbing is involved in the tour.

When i went in June last year, it wasnt the old walk through the factory like they used to, but its just like a 15 mins presentation then you get all access to cheap chocolate, there is like $40 for 5kg of chocolate!

Did you say chocalate ( I cant spell it) well might be the clincher to convince the wife its a good idea to take the padwans and her to Tassie to dress up as a biker scout for the week end, lets see how that pans out ....LOL
